The Role of Iron and Balanced Diet

During pregnancy, your body requires significantly more blood volume to support the placenta and growing fetus. Iron is an indispensable mineral for producing hemoglobin.

Include a varied diet with iron-containing foods such as lentils, beans and leafy vegetables. Food alone may not meet pregnancy iron needs. Follow the iron and folic acid plan advised by your doctor; do not replace prescribed supplements with jaggery or home remedies.

Calcium and Hydration

Calcium is essential for the baby's bone and tooth development. Milk, curd, paneer, and sesame are natural calcium sources.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist how to time prescribed supplements and medicines. Drink regularly through the day; fluid needs vary with weather, activity and health conditions. Follow any individual fluid advice you have been given.
